At the Centro Emmanuel in Colonia Valdense, Uruguay, ecotheology is seen as a bridge between faith, care for Creation, and social commitment. Founded in 1959 as an ecumenical space for retreats and theological training, Centro Emmanuel is a testimony to the work of three churches: the Methodist Church in Uruguay, the Evangelical Church of the Río de la Plata, and the Evangelical Waldensian Church in the Río de la Plata. The Centro Emmanuel brings together agroecology, spirituality, and education and is based on an integral vision of Creation as a living subject.
The Centro Emmanuel promotes encounter and action that revitalize our connection with the Earth, encouraging us to regenerate ecosystems and human relationships. Through projects such as El Repique, we restore native species and transform communities, strengthening our relationship with Creation and renewing our commitment to socio-environmental justice.
The integration of agroecology, ecotheology, and education challenges us to question production models and cultivate an active spirituality that fosters reconciliation with Creation. The Centro Emmanuel seeks to weave deep links between generations, communities, and local knowledge, opening paths towards a more just and balanced reality.
The Centro is a place where faith, action, and active hope come together to sow justice and to strengthen our relationship with Creation.
