GenevaSince the Waldensians joined the Reformation in the early 1500s, Waldensians fleeing persecution in Italy were able to find refuge among the Reformed people of Switzerland and the Lutherans in Germany. As a result, Waldensian congregations were established in Switzerland as early as the mid-1600s.

During the second half of the nineteenth century, many Waldensians also left the Waldensian Valleys for France. In France, as well as in French-speaking parts of Switzerland, some Waldensians worked in hotels, restaurants, and construction.

Swiss Reformed Christians have always felt a special connection to their sisters and brothers in Italy and have stood up for them in time of need. The Waldensian Committee in German-speaking Switzerland was established in 1978.
